A VPN
connection is useful for monitoring and designing the lighting
system remotely.
This connection requires:
a computer at both ends of the
connection for the VPN End Point software
the client computer, local to
the lighting system, to be running Designer software.
VPN connection to Helvar routers
The diagram below shows an example of how VPN software
supports a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) which gives access to Helvar
routers.
This type of connection requires the following equipment:
Tips:
Most routers and LAN modems support VPN Passthrough. This
facility simply means that the router
does not interfere with a VPN End Point.
Some routers have a VPN
End Point built-in. These are known as VPN Servers. If you
are not using a VPN Server router, then you must use VPN End
Point software on the computer.
Before configuring a VPN
connection, we recommend that you ensure that the operating
system on each computer has the latest VPN software installed.
