Addresses

An address is a number or sequence of numbers used to identify a router In the sense of a lighting system, a router is an intelligent device whose software and hardware perform the tasks of routing and forwarding messages (data) from control devices to the control gear. A router contains two or more subnets. , subnet A subnet is a part of a router. There are two or more subnets on each router. The subnet allows the flow of network traffic between hosts to be segregated, based on network configuration. By organising hosts into logical groups and joining them, subnetting, network security and performance can be improved., device A physical item with which you can interact, either directly or via Designer. or subdevice in a lighting system A network of client PCs, routers, control devices, control gear, and lamps. Each item has a unique address that is either defined automatically (by Designer or the router), or defined manually (by the user with Designer or at the physical device).

Address Structure for Items

Each address is made up of up to five numbers in the format:

Cluster ID.Cluster Member ID.Subnet.Device.Subdevice

Router Address Format

Routers have an address in the format of Cluster ID.Cluster Member ID

Subnet Address Format

Subnets have an address in the format of Cluster ID.Cluster Member ID.Subnet

Device Address Format

Devices have an address in the format of Cluster ID.Cluster Member ID.Subnet.Device

Subdevice Address Format

Subdevices have an address in the format of Cluster ID.Cluster Member ID.Subnet.Device.Subdevice
